Spring is in the air in the U.S. Across the country, little leaguers are gearing up for baseball season—donning their hats and gloves and eagerly hitting the field. Unfortunately, kids with special needs are often relegated to the sidelines. But that's not the case in Berks County. Thanks to adaptive baseball through Baseballtown Charities Dream League, our kids get to take to the field too!
One of only about 120 adaptive baseball leagues in the country, Dream League gives children with physical and developmental disabilities the chance to experience the rush of playing our national pastime.
Dream League games take place at the Savage 61 Dream Field, a fully accessible field specially constructed for Dream League players. It’s smaller in size and surfaced with turf to accommodate wheelchairs, walkers, and other assistive equipment. The field is surrounded by real dugouts, a scoreboard, and cheering fans—just like any other baseball experience, but built with inclusion in mind.
Volunteers support the players' individual needs throughout each game. There’s no pressure to perform, no emphasis on stats or standings—just an opportunity to belong, to swing a bat, and to round the bases in front of family and friends.
For families used to hearing “this isn’t the right fit,” Dream League is something entirely different. It’s a team. It’s joy. A place where exceptional kids are not just welcomed—they’re expected.
